Re-Used Speculums?
My question is this: If a doctor re-used a speculum, what could the patient contract? Could it be life threatening? I went to my first visit with a yeast infection and went back later for a bacterial infection. After the exam during my first visit, I felt a burning in the . At the second visit, the same Dr. I went to pulled out a speculum out of a draw and used it on me. At the end of the exam, I opened that draw and found 5 speculums on a large napkin lining the draw and one opened tube of lubricant with a missing cap. Lubricant was on the napkin. I do not know if all the speculums in that draw were all clean or all used. I do know that she put my used one back in there. How about the idea of putting a dirty speculum on the napkin, cleaning it and then putting the clean one back on that napkin? Basically, what can one get if it was not sanitary? I am very concerned.
