I have just bought a 1993 Dodge Dakota and the overdrive is not working what could be the problem?

is the switch good on it for the over drive,they was bad to cause you to loose over drive,check that first then let a transmission shop test drive it and tell you what they think about it,best of all their diagnoses is free,good luck.
