Where is safe in manhattan around the holidays, specifically for NYE?

I am going to manhattan from dec 30th to Jan 7th on holidays. My boyfriend and I are staying at the new yorker hotel by Penn station. We made nye plans at katwalk lounge on 2W 35th st. We figured it would be close and we could walk home. Are we staying in a safe area and is katwalks in a safe area? And where isn't so we don't find ourselves in a bad situation? Thanks!
